Basil Sherbet: The Perfect Summer Drink
Basil Sherbet: The Perfect Summer Drink
Looking for a refreshing, fragrant drink to cool you down on a hot summer day? Basil sherbet is just what you need. With its stunning purple color, unique aroma, and simple preparation, this delicious beverage will quickly become your new favorite.
Ingredients
1 bunch of fresh purple basil
1 liter of hot water
1 cup of granulated sugar (adjust to your taste)
The juice of half a lemon
2-3 thin lemon slices
1 cinnamon stick
3-4 cloves
Instructions
- Prepare the Basil: Start by thoroughly washing the basil bunch. Separate the leaves from the stems, as you will only be using the leaves.
- Combine the Ingredients: Place the basil leaves, granulated sugar, cinnamon stick, and cloves into a deep bowl or pot.
- Add Hot Water: Slowly pour the boiling hot water over the ingredients. You will immediately see the basil leaves release their vibrant color into the water.
- Add Lemon: Add the lemon juice and lemon slices. This step will turn the sherbet a more vivid purple and balance the flavors.
- Let it Steep: Stir all the ingredients, then cover the pot and let it steep until it reaches room temperature, about 2-3 hours. The longer it steeps, the more intense the flavor will be.
- Strain: Once steeped, strain the sherbet through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to remove the basil leaves and other ingredients. (Optionally, you can leave a few lemon slices in the sherbet for an elegant presentation.)
- Serve: Pour the strained sherbet into a pitcher. Chill it well in the refrigerator before serving. For a final touch, you can garnish it with a fresh mint leaf or a slice of lemon.
Enjoy your delicious drink!
